Some may ask what is the connection between a car manufacturer and classical music?  Many people know that Audi has organized its own classical music festival for many years. This year in Ingolstadt, from July 3 to 30, Audi will present the 23rd annual Audi Summer Concerts (Audi Sommerkonzerte 2012). The motto this year is „For eternity” („Für die Ewigkeit”), which weaves throughout the programme and has determined the choices for programming and artists.

This year, for the first time, the festival will also feature the International Audi Youth Choir Festival from July 13 – 15 (Audi Jugendchor Festival).

Participating in the festival will be the Audi Academic Youth Choir from Ingolstadt, as well as the Ingolstadt Youth Chamber Choir, the Chamber Choir of South Africa, the womens’ youth choir Pražska kantiléna from the Czech Republic, the Taipei men’s youth choir from Taiwan and BALSIS.  The special guests at this festival will be The King’s Singers from Great Britain!

The festival will open on July 11 with a Bavarian Radio - Klassik broadcast from the Audi Auto Museum (Audi Museum Mobile) with a panel discussion „Youth Sings!” and will feature a performance by BALSIS.

All choirs will perform solo concerts as part of the festival, presenting both sacred and contemporary repertoire, but the festival will conclude on July 15with a performance of the Brahms German Requiem, featuring all 200 singers, soloists and the Georgian Chamber Orchestra of Ingolstadt (Georgisches Kammerorchester Ingolstadt), under the direction of Martin Steidler.

Until then, BALSIS is busy rehearsing this beautiful and massive masterwork!
